CDU Unit Signouts are at 6:00 PM, 3:00 AM and 7:00 AM Daily
Signing out the CDU unit implies responsibility to cover any issues that arise overnight, responding to emergencies and following up any pending test results.
The daytime CDU provider to overnight cross-cover singout should occur at 6:00 PM. Signout at 6:00 PM is to the ED physician scheduled form 6:00 PM to 3:00 AM. The 6:00 PM to 3:00 AM ED Physician will then Signout to the 10:00 PM - 7:00 AM Physician. Coverage from 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM will fall to the 6:00 AM - 3:00 PM Physician.

Steps for Sign Out
Ensure that Unit is ready for signout. All patients need to have notes, home med-reconciliations, CDU treatment orders, Diets, PRNS (for Pain, Nausea, Sleep at a minimum), and any needed morning labs ordered.
CDU Signout Sheet is updated
Re-Assign the attending form the daytime supervising attening to the 6:00 PM attending for all patients using the "Treatment team" function
Write the names of Cross Cover Attendings on the White Board in the CDU
Verbally Sign Out the Unit the 6:00 PM attending. Different attendings will want different levels of detail.
It will likely be helpful for the attending accepting signout to pull up the CDU Signout sheet, please direct them there when beginning signout.
