Patient with established G tube, J tube or Surgical Drain needing replacement that cannot be accomplished quickly in the ED.
Patient needing placement of PICC line for outpatient infusions which have already been arranged, PICC placement not available in the ED immediately.
Consulting Service (IR, GI) aware of need and in agreement to preform procedure.
No other new complicating diagnoses suspected
No bleeding diathesis
Patient consentable or has consenting party present.
On full dose anticoagulation (needing washout)
Cannot be consented
Other complicating diagnosis present.
No service agreeing to perform procedure.
Order NPO @ midnight prior to procedure
Order Coag studies morning of procedure
Patient to be recovered in PACU / IR after procedure before returning to CDU
Disposition
Tube in correct position, working
Complication develops during procedure or tube cannot be placed
